Now that summer is nearly here, they’re kicking off the season at Hillforest Victorian House Museum, the 1855 historic mansion that was once owned by the Gaffs – a family of industrialists responsible for building the classic structure located in downtown Aurora. Visitors can get a glimpse of that elegant lifestyle – and enjoy a pleasant summer evening – at the museum’s Design & Wine event, which will take place in early June.
Attendees will enjoy a beautiful summer evening in the Hillforest courtyard while participating in a painting project under the direction of a skilled art instructor. The event is co-sponsored by The Framery of Lawrenceburg, with wine, appetizers, and a refreshing summer cocktail included.
Located a few blocks from the Ohio River in the City of Aurora, Hillforest welcomes visitors from April through December. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been designated as a National Historic Landmark. Its unique Italianate-style architecture – including an ornate entrance, dramatic third-floor cupola and period-style rooms – transport visitors back to the mid-19th century, when sternwheelers plied the Ohio River and regularly stopped in Aurora.
Hillforest’s Design & Wine event will take place on Friday, June 5 at 6:30pm. The cost to attend is $40 for members ($45 for non-members), and attendees must be 21 or older. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Hillforest at 812-926-0087 or by clicking here.
